The Landscape Group
Environmental Community Action
With long term contracts, some lasting up to 16 years, The Landscape Group is part of the community in which it works and cares about maintaining the quality of the local environment and the communities around it.
In 2014 The Landscape Group set up a charity, Growing a Greener Britain, to help fund community projects in publicly-owned parks and open spaces. The company continues to sponsor the charity.
In the current economic climate, there is an increasing reliance on committed Community Volunteer and Friends Groups to help keep standards high so Growing a Greener Britain was established to give a little back to these Community Groups. It is a distributing body that provides match-funding for projects that meets the charity’s objectives. This means that groups need to provide a certain amount of capital themselves and then the charity will match it.
- Creating improvements to free, publicly accessible green space
- Providing local employment opportunities through the creation of maintenance projects
- Providing training and work experience opportunities for those in the local community
- Promoting of green open spaces within the local community
Projects have included Our Parklife (OPL) which was set up to ensure local people are connected to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London through employment, training and volunteering roles linked to Park management. Growing a Greener Britain’s contribution to OPL was seed capital to enable OPL to meet its short term and medium term objectives. It also ensured that the initial employment and volunteering programmes delivered were to a high and consistent standard.
