Wealth of experience
Despite being founded in 2008, the Elysian Capital team brings a depth and breadth of experience unmatched by any other recently established UK mid-market private equity firm. The firm’s five partners have more than 100 years’ combined experience in the UK private equity mid-market. As well as the team’s comprehensive track record of MBOs, MBIs, buy-and-builds, and exit strategies the team brings experience of several economic cycles.
‘Elysian Capital may be a relatively new name in private equity, but our team is extremely experienced at investing in the UK mid-market,’ says Elysian Capital co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Ken Terry. ‘Our team has experience of between 15 and 20 plus years in private equity. Each of us has a deep and broad network of contacts – not just amongst investors and advisers, but including chief executives and finance directors, the businessmen who find ideas and provide the proprietary deal flow so vital to mid-market private equity firms.’
This experience is provided not only from the firm’s founders, but also from its partners, Edward Brett, Phil Greves and Richard Ramsey. Edward has a long track record at 3i and Gresham; Phil has been very active in the north of England at 3i and Rothschild and Richard has completed over 150 deals with the market leading lending banks of the last 20 years. All have spent their whole career in the mid-market and are specialists in this field.
The team has cumulatively been responsible for £3.5bn of equity investment in more than 60 businesses. Elysian Capital partners have successfully invested across a broad spectrum of businesses in a wide range of sectors. Elysian Capital co-founder and chairman Dr Chai Patel has implemented three highly successful buy-and-build strategies in the healthcare sector.
‘Having been building businesses for 30 years my network is very much in the mid-market entrepreneurial space, which allows me to be involved in or to hear about more deals, which are relevant to Elysian’s investment criteria,’ says Elysian Capital Chairman Dr Chai Patel. ‘As an entrepreneur myself with a pretty substantial network of contacts in that community, I can generate more opportunities than if I had a corporate background.’
